This paper delves into contemporary challenges facing management research, examining the gap between academic research and the practical needs of businesses through a postmodern lens. It introduces Andrew Pettigrew’s perspectives on postmodern management alongside Ken Starkey and Paula Maden’s suggestions for enhancing interaction between researchers and managers as potential solutions to bolster the credibility of management research. Furthermore, by emphasizing significant global challenges, the paper underscores the imperative for interdisciplinary and innovative research to effectively address complex socio-environmental and economic issues. This necessity is increasingly pressing in a rapidly changing world where traditional approaches may fall short. Ultimately, this research proposes a comprehensive three-pronged framework for management research, which encompasses responsiveness to stakeholder needs, engagement with global challenges, and innovation in research methodologies. This framework aims not only to bridge the gap between theory and practice but also to provide actionable insights that can guide both scholars and practitioners in navigating the complexities of modern management. By doing so, it seeks to enhance the relevance and applicability of management research in real-world contexts.
